18 Montrose

To launch 18Montrose on Regent Street, Argent Design created a striking concept built around sustainable 3D-printed wall panels and fixtures manufactured in Amsterdam. SmithBrewer were appointed as the delivery partner, responsible for taking this visionary concept and transforming it into a functional, durable, and scalable retail environment without losing the design’s distinctive identity.

The hero material—an intricate 3D-printed bio-composite—had never been used in a retail setting. It needed to perform under the demands of a high-traffic store while remaining true to the design intent. The solution had to be modular for flexible merchandising, durable enough for commercial use, and cost-efficient to produce at scale. All of this had to be delivered through a complex international supply chain, with rigorous quality control and tight timelines.

SmithBrewer took full ownership of the delivery process, acting as the single point of contact across engineering, supplier coordination, prototyping, logistics, and installation. We developed an innovative mounting system that transformed the bespoke 3D-printed panels into a modular, serviceable format—maintaining the sculptural aesthetic while enabling commercial practicality. Extensive prototyping tested durability, colour stability, and fixing performance, ensuring the material could withstand live retail conditions.

By modularising the design, we unlocked efficient batch production, reduced overall cost, improved installation speed, and significantly lowered the project’s carbon footprint through optimised shipping and reduced waste. The result is a space that feels entirely bespoke, yet is built on a robust, scalable framework that supports long-term maintenance and future rollouts.

Delivered on programme and under budget, the store set a new benchmark in sustainable sneaker retail and strengthened the collaborative partnership between Argent Design, Aectual, and SmithBrewer. Its success led to the concept being extended into the FLANNELS Leeds flagship, proving its commercial viability at scale.
